Art and animals have made my life. For over 30 years, I was a glass artist creating work for galleries and museums, and traveling to teach. I retired from glass and devoted myself to my first love, horses. Not being able to find specialized tack, I then took up leather work and produced not only tack for horses, but a wide assortment of leather products. While experimenting with pyrography (burning images) on leather, I was led to the world of gourds and the amazing work being done with them. Although I still work in leather, I have found gourds to be my artistic preference. I love their natural beauty, and that they are from the earth and were used widely for utilitarian objects by native peoples. I find them to be the perfect venue to express my love of animals and use the numerous techniques I enjoy, which include painting, pyrography, carving, and drawing.
